Hello all,

First of all I would like to introduce myself. I have been one of the classic "lurkers" around SDN for about a year now, and recently created an account. I'm a graduating student for UCI (class of 2010), and I come before you guys for further insight on advancing my dental school dreams.

As of now, I am still compiling my AADSAS application (I know, a little late ) and plan to have it sent out this Friday (the 20th). Considering everything all wrapped up and good to go, how long will it take for the D-schools to receive and A-OK everything?

You can consider me a late bloomer. I have a 2.929 GPA and a 2.844 sGPA. Recently took the DAT in July, sorry for not posting a breakdown. My scores are 23PAT, 19QR, 19RC, 22BIO, 24GC, 21OC, 22TS, 21AA. I have about 150 shadowing hours along with approximately 160 hours in my service fraternity of 4 years. Knowing of my application situation, what do guys think of my chances for this cycle?

Your chances for this cycle is very low considering your low GPA and late application. Your DAT is absolutely gorgeous though. Even if you e-submit this 20th, your file for dental schools will not be complete for review until maybe at best end of september. By then, all of the pre-december interview invites would have been given out. So, you would be competing against those who have higher GPA's than you for only a few spots that are available. The competition will be more fierce.

You should apply to Master's or post-bacc insteading of applying to Dental schools this cycle. Try getting 4.0 next year and apply really early.You will surely receive some interviews and it's up to your interviewing skills and personality that gets you the acceptance. No guarantees though.

I agree with the above, your biggest chance of getting in is in pre-dec interviews. I read somewhere on here that 74% or something of the classes get filled up from pre-dec interviews and then you compete for the remaining with post-dec interviews. If you submit now, AADSAS probably won't even get your app out until the end of sept. Although some schools haven't started giving out interview dates yet, midwestern I've heard has filled up sept and october already and is already giving out dates in november. anyway, i would work on improving your GPA or doing something to prove to d-schools that you can hack it, then apply early next year (june).
