Introduction/First Question

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I think it's too general, doesn't answer "why medicine" other than it's a profession that requires hard work and you feel that you need to work hard because your father did.

I was thinking that too, but I do have specific reasons why I chose medicine so hopefully I'd have space to fit that in a well explained way

Can you have that be your "hook" and then tie it in somehow to the "why medicine" question? I touched on some family stuff too but found a way to tie it in to the larger theme of the PS.

One other thing I heard discussed at a pre-med conference is that you should make sure that you are willing to talk about things you put in your PS at your interview. If it's sensitive or you can't remain composed while discussing it, you should leave it out.

I am willing to discuss it but I see your point. I'll try and see if I can relate it more to why I chose medicine or use another approach in presenting myself.
