  1. Fellow [Any Field]
I am in my second year neonatology fellowship. for any reason, I had only 20 chances for intubation, of which 6 failed! it is very much disappointing.. I am very strong in medical knowledge and scholarly activities but not being able to master intubation makes me feel horrible! People say it's normal as we don't do as many intubations anymore, but it doesn't make me feel any better. Any idea?

It is not unusual to fail once in a while when you are learning how to intubate neonates-- also depends on the nature of the intubation, challenging airway, sydnromes, etc. What is important though, is that you continue to improve and learn since as the fellow you are often the highest level person available to intubate (varies by institution)-- can you arrange to spend time in the operating room with an anesthesiologist? They could have you do babies preferentially, but doing a lot of intubations in different aged children will really help you get experience.
