Does anyone have suggestions for the most involved clinical volunteer/undergrad employment experience? I really need to get more clinical experience but am looking to be more involved than answering call bells etc. For example, I had at one time seen part time phlebotomy employment with the only requirement being completion of a phlebotomy training course. unfortunately, that job went off the market and am looking for other ideas.

If you want a job that is involved and can be on your own time, a lot of scribing and EMT positions are available. Just do your research beforehand.

Phlebotomy would be significantly more difficult to do on your own time/outside of school hours save for weekends/overnight rounds etc.

Volunteering? Probably ER volunteer at a slightly-rural-but-more-than-30-beds hospital would get you more involved.

Scribing is not the type of involved I am looking for. EMT would be great but I honestly don't have the time to go though many months of training

Then small/semi-rural ER volunteering. Otherwise, there is not much clinical opportunity for what you are looking for.

I work as an ophthalmic tester at a private clinic. On the job training and pays 10.25 hr. I get to spend 1 on 1 time with the patient and can administer about 12 tests. Part of my job is to also educate the patient about the eye, what the tests look for, and their illness/ disease. I even get to consult patients about a few tests not covered by insurance and come to a decision with the patient in wether or not to take it. I’ve also learned how to interpret various tests and picked up being able to be comfortable to be with the patient for long period of times (sometimes 2 hours) and to also do tests that can cause great discomfort. One draw back has been that working at a small private clinic means the hours are not flexible so I’ve only been able to do this by taking a semester off. My suggestion would be to ask your local clinics abut job openings and go from there
