Is the "Iodoform test" used to determine whether one has "secondary alcohol" or ketones in a given solution????? I am not so sure about this.

Iodoform tests are useful for groups that have C=O bonded to a methal group and a C-OH bonded to a methal group. Anything that has this will yeild a positive iodoform test.

So, does it mean that they cannot be used to distinguish aldehydes that have CH3 attached to the carbonyl carbon from ketones???? TopScore says that this test can be used to distinguish aldehydes from ketones
