#97 is asking Which of these has the highest ionization energy?
Ar, Na+ , Na, Mg, Kr

I thought it would be Argon because it is more EN so it would be more harder to pull off. IN general , the noble gases dont like to lose electrons. How would I know that Na+ would have higher IE than Argon?

With Argon, you are removing the outermost electron from the 3rd shell. With Na+, you are removing an electron from the 2nd shell - much closer in to the nucleus and therefore experiencing a stronger attractive force than an electron further out in the 3rd shell. As a result Na+ has the higher ionization energy.

To add to what Feralis said; try to consider what Na+ really is in terms of electrons. Na+ represents Neon! Thus, Na+ is Neon with an extra proton, this pseudo Neon would have a higher electron ionization energy than true Neon and true Neon has a higher ionization energy than Argon (as explained by Feralis) --- thus Na+ definitely has a higher ionization energy than Ar.
