The residency program I'm starting with is providing us with iPads and we get the option of the mini or the air. Everything in the hospital and clinics are EMR and accessible from the iPad so it's main use would be for hospital work, writing orders, looking up labs, x-rays, etc,...

The mini is small enough to fit in the lab coat pockets and the air is light enough to not be a hassle to carry around, performance wise both are pretty much the same from what I've read about them online. I'm leaning towards the air because I think it'd be easier to look at the images and what not and maybe easier to type on...

Any suggestions?

If you have the time, go to an Apple store and test drive both. Bring your white coat and see what each one feels like in your pocket. Ask the Apple pros for their opinion too.

It is essential that it fits in your pocket! If necessary, though, you can always have your coat altered with a larger pocket added.
