Hello! I'll be starting pharmacy school this fall 2016 and I'm in need of a new laptop. I've heard from many pharmacy students that the majority of professors teach their classes through PowerPoint which includes a lot of diagrams, pictures, tables, etc. I understand that I can print these out however, with the intensity of pharmacy school you can imagine how quickly the pile of notes can add up.

What are your thoughts on an IPad vs a laptop for note taking? I've never used an iPad during undergrad to take notes. Anyone like the Notibility app? I've also considered the Microsoft surface pro 4.... Any thoughts on this either?

My school you HAVE to have a laptop, it's require for testing and other minor things. I have a surface and never touch it because the laptop will suffice for all you needs. I recommend I full laptop with a touch screen and stylus so you can write on the screen.
Side note: I don't take any notes because the material is too fast to manage taking notes and comprehending the material (for me anyways). I was a major note taker in undergrad.. Not anymore

It's been a while since I've been on SDN, but here I am to chime in. I am in my first year and I have both a laptop and an ipad. My school uses ExamSoft to take all of our exams/quizzes and I've taken tests on both devices. I prefer the ipad; more lightweight and portable. We were required to purchase a privacy screen for our devices for next semester, so hopefully that goes well. As far as Notability...LIFECHANGING. I love it; I have a nice stylus that I use with Notability and I take handwritten notes on my Notability.

Any other questions, please let me know!

Some people in my class use an iPad with a keyboard attachment, a few have the surface pro, but most just have a laptop.

If you want to write notes on the screen I'd get a surface pro, otherwise I'd just get a laptop. I personally don't take many notes because the lectures go really fast and most of the time I have to rewatch parts of the lecture to make sure I got everything down correctly anyways. I think using an iPad for everything would be a pain or possibly impossible but I'm assuming these people have a computer at home and are just using it to pull up the slides.

Like I said I personally don't take many notes and I don't print out the slides either. I just outline/re-write the lecture based on the PowerPoint and then pull up the lecture video and play it at 1.5x-2x speed to add any additional details to my notes.

You will need a laptop or computer of some kind to make presentations and what not. While it is true that you can do these things on a tablet, it is neither easy nor convenient. Go with the laptop
