Well, congratulations. 🙂 Sometimes we can't choose how things happen, or unravel, but we are very glad that they did, however they manifest themselves. It needed to happen in just the way that it did and it is absolutely perfect. True, you lost a bit of money, but trust me, it's nothing in the grand scheme of things; you saved yourself from having to do a one-year master's and the uncertainty of the process. You have a seat for next year and you can relax and enjoy your year off. That would be worth the $500 to me and a bit of time to fill out the apps, etc. 😉

Congrats OP! We're envious :-D.
WEll you'll make up the money because its one year sooner that you'll find yourself on a doctor's salary.
why do you have to re-take the MCAT...wouldn't skipping it amount to cancelling your scores during/after the test? anyway congrats on the great news...I'd definately throw down $500 to be in that situation, no question.

I would definitely NOT retake the MCAT. You're not going to get the money back anyway and your head isn't going to be in the game. Take the day off and do something fun. sightseeing. Window-shopping. Packing. Anything but that dang exam again when you don't have to take it.
Then again, with absolutely 0 pressure on you you might find yourself scoring a 45.
If I was in your situation, I would go pull my money out of the bank before that $500 is cleared (since you only submitted yesterday). Once your bank accounts at zero AACOMAS obviously can't collect the money you submitted to them. Once the accounts at zero, tell your bank to put a stop payment on the $500 you authorized. Most people are taking a month to get verified, so I doubt if you submitted yesterday that the payment has already cleared.
This WOULD happen to me. So, I've been studying to retake the MCAT on July 8th for the past few months.
Just one quick question - how does one get accepted to medical school without taking the MCAT??
OP is retaking it.

YEah and then your credit gets destroyed and you can't get a loan for medical school. You then end up on the street with a faded mcat review book while you sit in an alley mumbling to yourself about lechatlier's principal and Na+/K+ pumps.

I wonder if they wer= just waiting for you to submit for the new year to makre sure you were serious. for Real. This WOULD happen to me. So, I've been studying to retake the MCAT on July 8th for the past few months. I finally took a break and got the guts to hit those "submit" buttons on my AACOMAS and AMCAS apps. $500 later, I was happy to have this done with. The very next day, I get a phone call from KCUMB (where I'm getting ready to start a masters program). Guess what they wanted? They offered me a spot in their medical school class that starts in 2009. So I don't have to apply at all....and if I had just waited one more stupid day I could have saved myself $500.....grrr!! Oh yeah, and it's obviously too late to cancel my MCAT so I have to go in on Tuesday and take it again - even though it will have absolutely no effect on the acceptance to med school. Don't get me wrong - I'm really, really excited to be accepted..but the way it all played out is just ridiculous! Ok..I'm done venting😛

I didn't realize how attractive she actually is until now. I was too young back then, haha. (Goes to find the Thank You video)."Well life has a funny way of sneaking up on you

hahaha, you wouldn't be attempting to spill karaoke secrets, would you TT?

That Alanis song has been stuck in my head for two days now...thanks guys🙄
Pamolive - the acceptance to med school for fall 09 is contingent upon me earning at least a 3.0 in the 1 year masters program. It's KCUMB's policy with their 1 yr masters of biosciences to give you a guaranteed seat in the med school after you finish your degree with a 3.0. With the masters of bioethics, half of the class has guaranteed seats and half have guaranteed interviews.
That's a pretty good deal. Congrats again!
