Irreversible pulpitis

Cold (Thermal)

-EPT only test vitality of the tooth. A + response = Vital: A - response = necrotic. Thus it only allows you to know if a tooth is vital or non-vital.

-Cold gives you much more insight. It tells you the severity of pulpal involvement. If pt. responds to cold, the tooth is vital. If the discomfort subsides upon removal of cold = Normal. If discomfort lingers = Irreversible Pulpitis. If the pt. feels NO feeling, then the tooth MAY be necrotic. You must test vital and healthy teeth to function as a control for the tooth you are suspecting of endodontic pathology and compare your results accordingly.

Hi dmband420,

Would you explain the concept of hue, value and chroma and its application in dentistry.

Hue is one of the main properties of a color which is described by its name, i.e. yellow, red....

Value refers to the colors relative lightness or darkness

Chroma refers to how strong / weak the color is.

For a better explanation google:

Munsell Color System, but what I posted is all you'll need to know for Part II Boards (applied to a clinical situation of course).
