Just trying to pace myself for application time, come 2007. I am a Pre-dent and I was wondering if I needed to take the entire year of organic chemistry prior to taking the DAT.

I took the DAT after one semester of O-Chem and did fine (20). The first time I took the DAT before O-chem and got a 13 on O-Chem. Moral of the story...take at least a semester of O-Chem before the DAT! You'll probably be okay with one semester...if you're not, retake it after the second semester.

I found that on the DAT there was mostly questions on activation and deactivation of a ring. I learned most of that stuff during second semester. So yeah I would take that first. You'll take it anyway so why not?

i took the dat w/o ochem and got an 18. never wanna try doing that again...hehehe...but i think you'll be solid w/ half a semester b/c when you read the kaplan notes, the stuff you already learned will be super easy and so it won't be so much to learn the new stuff on your own.
DAT has m/c questions which will be easier than the detailed free responses that you have to do for college exams so imho, you will be fine!

Depends how much you learned/retained. I knew lots of people that 1 semester was plentiful and for others it took 2 for things to sink-in.

I aced the first semester (at my CC), memorized all the kaplan material and got a 25, so it can be done. You shouold know kaplan back and forth.
