Is 1 month really not enough time for DAT prep?

I thought it was some what ok, about 8hrs/day for 30 days? But from reading some of the threads, 3 months is like the minimum. I better start now huh?

huh? 3 month minimum? most people study for about 6 weeks, 5-6 hours a day...3 months is a bit overkill unless you are going to school at the same time

It took me just a little over 1 month of studying. I had no other obligations at the time and i went at it pretty hardcore though. gl.

i cant believe anyone would study 8 hours a day. are you actually going to do that?

it really depends on how much you remember from the pre-req classes and how well you study.

depends on how smart you are. I think most people knows how much prep they will need to do well on the DAt based on their study habits and grades..

Type A - you study very little and get As and the occasional Bs and or C's then one month is more than enough..

Type B - you're the type who does homework when assigned and have scheduled study time for each subject in school and get A's then 1 month and a half seems adequate..

Type C- you study 24/7 in school and manage to get A's then 1 month and a half is cutting it close..

Type D you study 24/7 and manage B's or lower then.. well... there's not much hope no matter how long you prepare for the DAT.

PS. YEs.. some of you are thinking.."that's not true" cause some people do well on standardize tests and they don't do well in school at all.. well those people are usually the Type A people who party throughout college and then decided to make up for it in the DAT. THey usually are naturally gifted abeit very lazy (in some cases) people.

Some people are naturally very bright and don't need to buy study guides or study very long.

If you've been able to retain information from your classes, and have a good grasp of the basics, you are probably in good shape.

You're the best judge of yourself and how long you should study.

Type A, for about a weak, I started about 1 1/2 mounths earlier but kind of fizzled out after a couple days. Procrastinated studying, did good enough to get in, but wish I would have studied more because I know I could have done better if I put the time into it.

Everyone's learning curve is different. You need to be asking your self how fast you can understand a concept before you move on to the next. There is a lot of material that you need to be prepared for the DAT. If you have a basic understanding of the biological, chemical and organic working of things, than one month is more than enough. If you need to start from strach, sign up for the DAT for now and prepare, and if you feel you are not ready, reschedule. Good luck.

studied for two weeks 10 to 14 a day. anything more i would be dead. 20/20/22

woahhh i did the same exact thing and pretty much the same scores...rock on👍

I dont know what these other people are smoking but you need at least 2 years.

I studied for 3 months which was good because it took me a while to warm up. By the end I was studying 8 hours a day 5 days a week but the beginning was more study for a couple hours...oo, time to go to the beach...okay, back to studying...hmm, I wonder whats going on on SDN...study for 10 minutes...😴 😴

Edit: I was also recovering from shoulder surgery and had to write left-handed for the first month. Otherwise maybe 2 months would have been good.

You've really got it all figured out.. How'd you do it?

Well I am type B. I study for like 2 months and got 21AA/22TS/18PAT. (my AA would be alot higher if you take out the reading section...I got a 17 on Reading..)
I ONLY studied the science sections though...and I ONLY used Kaplan.
I recommend that you use DAT destoryer and Topscore etc.. If you want a very good score like 24 or 25AA.. I notice that most people with 24+AA scores used all of the above... I regret not using those...

I worked full time and studied for about a month. The first 2 weeks was about 1-3 hours a day, then I bumped it up to about 4-6 a day (give or take a few days I took off). The day before the test I studied 14 hours.

25/23/24

I had been out of school for 14 months and I only had one BS lab class for my last quarter in 2005. IMO, it is definitely doable in a month, especially if you have no other obligations. That said, good luck! 👍

i was a full-time student, and i treated it like another class i was taking last spring. so i studied throughout the whole semester going over all the material at least once, which took maybe 3 - 5 hours a week or less. then i studied intensively (4-5 hours/day) craming and memorizing everything during the 2 weeks before the test. i didn't do anything the day before except some for some PA, and i did well.

i also wish i studied the RC more like someone else said. even though i got a 20 in that section, it was only 65%ile, and i think this is a really important section when adcoms consider the DAT.

i didn't study QR at all really, and i didn't htink it was a big deal.
