I am currently working on applications to a couple of Counseling Psychology PhD programs. My undergrad was in English & History, but I am working on a MS in Educational Psychology. In the course of my masters I have completed a case study on a student. I mention the case study in my SP, but does it count as research experience? Sorry if this has been previously addressed, but I was unable to find anything similar.

Thanks!

That's not research, that's coursework, and sounds more clinical than anything else, IMHO.

So a year long case study completed individually towards my degree requirements would count, but a similar one aligned with courses would not? I was of the understanding that a case study was a kind of research and it does require research to complete in the lit review. But thanks for the response.

what was involved in it? The purpose of getting research experience for doctoral programs is 1. showing a track record of legitimate interest in clinical research (dedication) and 2. knowledge of design, statistical issues and the use of statistical software (ie., SPSS).

I kinda doubt a case study of one individual would satisfy any of the above. Sorry

That's surprising that you'll have your MS and you don't have any research experience except a case study. Or am I misunderstanding?

The degree is in Ed Psych but its basically a split between special ed and ed psych. So the core is psychology, but much of the coursework deals with assessment, identification, and child development.

Its not the only research, but I was curios whether or not it would be possible to include it and if the research is intended to be more formal research then no, I would not be able to include it.

Thnx
