hey. I was wondering how age can affect acceptance. I'm a junior, but only 18 yrs old. I'll be taking my DAT in a few months and applying for dental school 2009. GPA-3.95, and active in extracurriculars: research, clubs, volunteering, shadowing. i would say i'm mature for my age. but i've looked at some stats, and the min age of accepted applicants is 20 or 21. So can anyone tell me if i should be concerned or not?

If you're graduating at 18 years of age, you are no doubt a gifted student, and your grades definitely show it. But be prepared to prove your maturity during those interviews. Some of the more conservative interviewers may be wondering whether or not you have the emotional strength and experience that some of the older applicants have. As long as you can prove that you are no different in this area than other applicants, you are golden.

I agree completely. Your academics speak for themselves so they will be greatly interested to see how mature you are, how your social skills, leadership and interest in dentistry. Basically, they want to see how strong your personality is at 18 compared to the age of an average applicant.
