It's looking like I will probably have to reapply to medical school and was wondering if an SMP could do me some good? I have a 27 MCAT (retaking it May 1, already scoring much better this time around since I only crammed for about a week to get the 27, yeah I half assed it, but have learned my lesson) and a 3.49 GPA, obviously a bit below ideal. Do you think doing an SMP and performing at a high level would significantly increase my chances or would I be wasting a bunch of money particularly if my MCAT on May 1 is significantly higher than a 27?

If you have to reapply, why not do an SMP?

So if I get into an SMP program, will I have to repay my loans that I acquire as a result of SMP tuition during medical school or will I be able to defer payment on them until I am a resident, assuming that I get into medical school? Thanks!!

I would work on your mcat, that's your weak spot more than your gpa.

I'd agree that the quickest, cheapest fix would be to get a 32+ on the MCAT. Also, if you don't have a steep upward grade trend and good BCPM GPA, you'd need to work on that.

Alternatively, you are already look to be a very good applicant for DO schools (providing the sGPA is good).

I'm not sure if 3.49 cGPA is competitive enough without an SMP. The bar keeps rising, and last year's average was 3.65 cGPA.

*shrugs*
