Why the DAS-3? TBH I'm not very familiar.
I think our frequent use of it is in part due to factors more applicable for the referring question of autism specifically than I would use in a more general clinic setting. For the age ranges we tend to use it for it has some advantages re: time (faster than e.g., Stanford Binet) while still providing age equivalencies, and materials tend to be relatively engaging while not being so MANY materials (unlike Mullen, Stanford Binet). Not uncommon in our clinic to give it out of age range for kids with delays and being able to give age equivalents is more meaningful for parents during feedback when discussing cognitive profile. Also I like the separation between spatial and visual it provides, alternate scoring (that excludes time) for blocks for kids who need a lot of redirection / mini-breaks, ability to calculate a non-verbal composite score (lots of our kids have speech delays) plus a lot of schools around here use it so nice for later comparison.
