Is anyone having a problem in actually writing their personal statement? I know exactly what I want to write about, but when I put it into paragraph form on paper, it just doesn't sound right. Even when I find something that I like, it doesn't sound like it will be enough. It always sounds too informal or there's always something that feels wrong about what I've written. The formatting of my paragraphs seems messed up and the organization of the paper just doesn't work. I know there's no such thing as a perfect personal statement, but I just seem to have a mind block or something going on right now! Please tell me I'm not the only one with this problem!!!

Just make sure you don't have run-on paragraphs with no breaks in the text. You don't even have to read it to check this. Just look at it visually.

Make sure what you are saying does not sound too cookie cutter.

Make sure it has a small bit of personality/spark but not goofy/immature personality (hehehe)

Make sure it answers all the questions you think it should answer and does so honestly (but not too honestly if you have skeletons in your closet hehehe).

Read it again after you take a nights sleep. If it still feels wrong ask yourself why (theres always a reason why) and then fix it.

If all that has been done then you are probably good to go 👍

also make sure your paragraphs each have a central theme of sorts and are not too random

i understand all that... it's just the actual writing of it that is becoming frustrating. i'll put it away for a little while to get my brain thinking, and when i think i have a good idea, i'll come back to it. but after i write down that idea (and it's usually a sentence), i become stuck again. just wondering if anyone had this problem while writing their personal statement and what they did to stop it.

Crazyrice610 has a recent thread that deals with help on personal statements.
