Hi all, I am interviewing for a compounding pharmacy tech position and am wondering if anyone here is one and can speak to the duties of the job, math calculations involved, and general overview. Has anyone ever been a retail pharmacy tech and then into compounding? I'm really wanting this job because it's on the job training and seems like a great company to work for that's not retail. All feedback is greatly appreciated

I interned at a compounding pharmacy for a few months and then later on took a job at a retail pharmacy that dabbled in some compounding. Personally I would take the job for the experience in itself. There was less patient interaction at the compounding pharmacy I intended at mostly because a majority of the medicines were shipped out all over. The calculations that I dealt with were incredbly simple or at least easy to grasp after a few runs. While there I ran ointments through the mill and put them into syringes, packed capsules and weighed them, drew up b-12 injections, filtered other compounded liquids, and checked stock dates of shelved medicines. Not sure if this helped, but good luck.

Thanks for your input. It helped a lot. I am thinking about taking this job for the great experience alone, as you said. On the job training and the company assists with their pharm techs getting certified too. Compounding seems like a great sector of pharmacy.
