is applying in early July considered "late"?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
DOes leaving your house at 8:05 instead of 8:02 make a difference?

hitting the submit button tomorrow once I finish my personal statement. Is this considered a late app or am I still within the "early realm". Thanks all!

DO NOT let anyone on SDN tell you that your app is "late."

haha, point taken. thanks guys. Some people here make it sound like if you don't get your apps out on June 1st you'll never get into medical school and your life from that point will be utter failure. Glad Im still in the clear. 👍

You're still relatively early. With the time you submit your application it's not black and white, the longer you wait the worse off you are. But if you send them a crap personal statement you can't change it, so it's very important to get something decent.

Basically I'd rank it like this (for MD schools):

June- very early
July- early (likely won't effect how many interviews/acceptances you get)
August- middle (early August is somewhat early and late August gets you into late territory)
September- somewhat late
October- late
November- very late
December- extremely late (at this point you're probably wasting your money)

It also matters how fast you send your secondary off. At this point only a few schools have even sent their secondaries out, but make sure you fill them out and pay within a week or maybe two of getting them. When you submitted your primary doesn't matter as much as when you submit your secondary. Getting your primary out earlier simply means you'll be able to get your secondary out earlier.

I just sent mine in July 1st... but now it seems the verification process will take MUCH longer at this point... AMCAS says it could take 4-6 weeks to verify my app. Is that going to delay my application? Do schools wait until your app is verified to invite you for a secondary?

I'm pretty sure they do. The moment you get verified you'll probably get a bunch of emails from them for their secondaries though.

This is very good advice.

If you don't want to wait for AMCAS, you can check the school specific boards to find what secondary questions you will receive.
