I've heard here and there that some schools do not require biochem, but only recommend it. All the schools I've been looking at seem like they require biochem. Have I been misinformed or does everyone know something that I don't?

let me look thru my handy dandy AAVMC book...

ah yes, upenn lol well... that was a waste of time since shanomong already posted. anyway, looks like every other US school does require it or some form of it. (western says "or physiological chemistry" is that the same as physical chem? because p-chem is so much harder i dont know why someone would take that instead of biochem.)

let me know if u're interested in international schools and ill look those up too

dinner time 🙂

I don't know why but your post cracked me up, I think it's cause I know what it's like when you spend time typing a reply and then someone beats you to it. LOL! That's so weird why UPenn doesn't, I wonder why? I thought most international schools required it but if you don't mind me asking...

It just happened to me with Shanomong LOL! Anyhow, now I know why they don't require it.

HAHAHA this is too funny. i gotta run to the gym real fast so i can be home before 8. will post later!!

physical chem = electrons, wave equations, magnetism, & quantum weirdness

physiology = how organisms work

Therefore... I don't think any veterinary school would require p-chem (although it was my favorite class).

Something I have learned is that many vet schools call their "biochemistry" sort of class "physiological chemistry" which then gets abbreviated to "p-chem" by people who have never had the distinct displeasure of having had to take physical chemistry. 😉

thanks for answering the pchem question without making me feel like a stupid hs student 🙂

OP- the international schools dont all have a direct list of classes like the US

Need to look in detail on website: dublin, glasgow,

No bchem listed: massey, montreal (if u speak french lol), prince edward, sydney

So, i just skimmed through the book. i would look these up to make sure!! but if i didnt write it down, then it had biochem written as required (as long as all the vet schools are included in the book. i thought all were, but again not sure)
