Hi guys,

NYMC requires 2 science (not including math) and 1 non-science letter of recommendation. One of my science letters is from my biostatistics professor from the school of public health and his letter works as a science letter at all the other schools I am applying to. However, do you guys think NYMC will accept it as a science letter because the class wasn't from the math department? And if it isn't accepted by them I was thinking of sending them my PI's letter because I took a Neurology research course under him for a grade. Is that a viable alternative?

Thanks for your help.

The best people to answer NYMC related LOR questions is NYMC themselves. Give them a call Monday, I'm sure they will be helpful.

However, via a simple google search of their LOR requirements:
"Two (2) letters must be from science faculty who either taught you in a class or supervised independent research for which you received credit toward your science GPA. Acceptable science courses for purposes of letters of evaluation include: biology, chemistry, physics, bio-medical engineering, or bio-engineering, etc. (Math is not considered a science course for purposes of letters of evaluation.)"

If you don't want to wait until Monday, Biostatistics is classified as mathematics in the aamc course classification guide. NYMC states that math is not considered a science course. So, I wouldn't use that letter. They did say that you could use your PI letter as an alternative since it is a class you received a grade toward your sGPA.
