Is Columbia worth the money?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
General rule of thumb: go to the least expensive program you can get into. 99% of the schools out there are essentially equal. School prestige has been debated at length on here. You can find tons of threads on it. I think the general consensus is that there is no need to take on that much debt if you don't need to. We all take the same board exams at the end of three years and job recruiters really couldn't care less where you went as long as you graduated and passed your boards.

If you can get into Columbia, you probably have good enough stats to get into a lot of places that are much less expensive than Columbia.

Recently accepeted to Columbia PT. Anyone who is a current student/graduate?

Is it worth all the loans???
I think Columbia in particular offers hefty scholarships, so look into that as well.

I'm curious what your plans would be for living arrangements if you went ahead with Columbia.

I live in the city already with my spouse.

Ah...well that's an interesting situation. I'm one of these knee-jerk "go to the cheapest school possible" folks, but if it's geographically convenient (i.e., you don't need a car) , preserves your spouse's work situation and allows you to get spouse-subsidized housing then I start to get on the fence.

I used to live in NYC, but moved back to Texas for the lower cost of living and in-state tuition. The cost of living priced me out before the cost of tuition. But if I had a spouse who could pay the rent and was committed to staying in the area...then damn, I'd think long and hard about Columbia...
