ah. i am starting pre-pharm this year. and i am pretty nervious. i went to a school where i learned nothing/did nothing/didn't care. everyone in my "class of 2006" was a slacker. so i was kinda the least of the slackers..so i end with a gpa of 4.5.

anyways. i was wondering how pre-pharm is. what percent is brains and what percent is just being smart?

as you see i am scared to start college :scared:

I don't think it has to do with "brains" or "being smart", doing well in pharm. school and college for that matter depends on your willingness to learn and to dedicate yourself to your studies. If you are excited about what you are being taught then learning the material and studying for exams will be easy. If not, you will have a long road ahead of you. My advice to you in terms of doing well in school is to start studying early and to be able to recognize when things aren't going well grade wise, if you do those two things, you'll be set.

Best of luck!

Not every prepharmer is smart, but every pharmacy student is. It's kinda impossible for them not to be.

You know I immediate start to think of the lower end students in my class and say well wait they're not doing that great; alas, it's all relative. Not doing well while taking 7 full-time science courses is still superior to excelling in a biochem undergrad while doing 4 courses a term.

These "lower-end" students beat out 9 other people for their seat in school so they must've done something right, and relative to the average person yes pharmacy students are "smarter". I wouldn't really discuss this outside an internet forum or a close group of pharmacy friends, watch what you say at parties 😛 (i.e I've actually run into and talked with quite a few people who have applied to pharmacy school and didn't get in - all completely unbeknownst to me, so just watch what you say).

However, there are always "Questionable Admissions" and we'll probably lose a couple of people next year; no selection process is 100% accurate.

I kinda meant don't talk about the people in your class who you think are kinda dumb, when the person who didn't even get in is standing next to you 😛

On a final note - you end up with a 4.5?????? What kind of a gpa is that? I'm thinking its highly inflated with advanced placement classes. Did you learn anything from that? If not - then you have good reason to be nervous. If you did - no worries - you'll do fine.

It never matters what you're gpa is in the end - it is what you do with what you learn - the whole way through. You can end up with a great gpa in pharmacy school but still be dumb as a post when it comes to interpreting what lab results mean or trying to explain a medication to a patient.

When you take a class - try to really "learn" the material - don't think about what this will "get" you - try to think about what this might help you build on. That may help you put things in persepective!

very highly inflated. i had a's on all my regular course works. and then i also got a's in all the ap/honor classes they offered at my school. the val usually has a gpa of 4.6. i ended last semster of last year with a b in calc hahaha. i did what every high schooler did. memorize for the test then forget it. crap. well at least i kinda got the gist of calc, physics, and chem.

thanks

Holy smokes wannabe! Got Post?
