Is getting my MCAT score in July 21st considered too late?

I plan on getting my application verified in June so it can be sent to one throw away school. Since, I will be getting my score back in July 21, a month after my application gets verified, will that be considered too late?

No its not, and I don't understand the concept of throwaways seems like a waste. Just get your score back on the 21st and apply then if you get the score you need. You can pre write secondaries and easily be completed before September.

You can always get your primary verified in June with 1-5 schools on your list (perhaps your state schools) and then add the rest of your schools after you get your MCAT score (which will hardly take any time for them to receive since your app will already be verified). Meanwhile, pre-write all your secondaries and submit them the day you receive them (you could spend June 21-July 21 doing this after you take the MCAT)

The "throwaway" starts the clock on the aspect of the AMCAS application that takes the longest...verification of transcripts.
Additional schools can be added and will update within a business day after the transcripts have been verified.

Is making your state school a throwaway school actually a good idea? I'm planning on submitting application June 1st too, but my MCAT wouldn't be until June 27th.

It's a good idea to the extent that it is highly likely you would be applying to it regardless of how you do on the MCAT. (I.e., can you imagine a circumstance under which you would apply to any school at all and NOT apply to your state school? If not, then it is a very safe "throw away" to get the ball rolling on verification. Otherwise, sure, literally throw away an application fee on a school to which you would never submit a secondary under any circumstance, in order to be able to to not be a reapplicant to schools you actually want to apply to, even though lots of schools ask if you've ever applied anywhere, not just to their school.)

Exactly- pick a school like WSU or UNLV that only accepts residents

NO! Your use a school that is one you would never get into, such as OOS or such a high reach, you wont get in.
Why would you do that? Would submitting your app before you get your MCAT score be somehow detrimental to your app at that school?

No. To use this strategy effectively, it must be a school you care nothing about.

Follow up question, is one throwaway school enough? I don't want to drop money in application fees at schools I would never attend.

Yes, one throwaway is enough, because the objective is merely to get your transcripts verified. That process is exactly the same no matter how many schools you apply to. More throwaways accomplish nothing other than "throwing away" more money!! 🙂

My bad! I figured it would be safe to apply to a school you would apply to no matter what your score was. I also assumed (yes -- I know all about assumptions!!! 🙂) that most people would have a rough idea of what range their score would be in based on AAMC FLs.

If you don’t have an mcat score when the school gets your primary, they might put it to the side until you get your mcat score back. Once it gets in, you think they’ll bother to check? Who knows. That’s why you use a throwaway.

I honestly hadn't considered that!

I know that everything doesn't come in at the same time (primary, scores, LORs, etc.) and just figured, if they don't screen before sending secondaries, that them bothering to check wasn't an issue since the process is most likely automated. In any event, given that effective use of the strategy requires the use of a school to which you won't submit a secondary under any circumstances, I guess it doesn't matter! 🙂

The twist this year, however, is, depending on when testing resumes and on how late rescheduled dates go, people might have to either submit secondaries on blind faith based on practice FL scores (assuming schools follow the lead of UCSF), or be prepared to not submit secondaries until maybe September or October.

Please spear the word that July is not late for MD. Nor is early August. The DO cycle runs even longer, so even Oct won't be late for them.

It's a pre-med delusion that everything has to be ready 6/1. Let's stomp this out.

Just have your essays pre-written and submit to 1 school on June 1st so your application can be verified by AMCAS

Seems like a waste to me, July still seems plenty early. I personally submitted in June/July and was completed by labor day with a interview in September. I would rather wait the extra 2 months so I know I have the score I need.

Does this "throwaway" loophole apply to TMDSAS? I've tried looking around the web and couldn't really find a for sure answer. It looks like for TMDSAS, if you apply to only 1 school, you will be considered a "reapplicant" for all Texas schools regardless of how many schools you apply if you don't get in the first time around.

It doesn't even apply to all AMCAS schools! 🙂 Some schools ask if you have ever applied to their school while others ask if you have ever applied to any school. It's really not a "loophole," it's just a way to limit the potential damage, bearing in mind that being a reapplicant is far from fatal. SDN is full of stories from people who receive an A after receiving a R or WL from the same school in a previous cycle.

It does not apply to TMDSAS. I called and asked them about this last cycle.
