Is going to a residency fair as a first year worth it?

My school will be having one soon. When it comes time to apply for residency in 4 years, will they even remember me? I'm not an overly charismatic person or anything, but would like to build up some kind of a rapport with a PD. I am a little torn right now, but understand that this is a first world problem. Thoughts?

If you know the field you're interested in it would be much more valuable to do research/shadowing in that department with faculty. You have the opportunity to organically create a relationship with the PD. Also, you won't have the opening to create rapport with the PD as there will be 4th years there with a lot more to gain/lose trying to grab some face time.

Definitely go but go just to meet people and learn something. Who cares if they remember you?! Plenty of time for that. You’re just in the information gathering stage at the moment and beginning to make yourself known.
