Let's be real here. How bad is it to be waitlisted with no acceptances thus far in the cycle? I still have to hear from 2 schools post-interview, with 2 interviews coming up.

I am waitlisted at 2 schools that typically accept 50% of interviewees......😕🙁

It depends on the school.

I've personally known people that went to undergrad with me that got off the waitlists in late spring/early summer.

Where I go to med school, on the other hand, almost no one gets in off of the waitlist, and I know that no one did last year.

Remember the 50% acceptance number includes waitlisters!

A lot of peoples' first acceptance is coming off waitlist in the summer. It's a sucky situation, since these people have most likely prepared to reapply or already submitted their AMCAS again, but at this point it's quite far from the end of the road. Stay optimistic, but also be realistic and soon start evaluating what can be improved in your app. Send in LOIs to schools that are receptive. And good luck! 🙂

Ok thanks for your note - yes I need to mentally prepare for the early summer. I plan to submit my AMCAS again on June 1. I still have all my letters plus a new one LOL, and have improved my app throughout the year I guess on a subconscious level preparing for the worst. I also am mentally prepping for the idea of getting an acceptance and moving my entire life within 2 weeks or less... kinda scary.

I want to give notice to my employer in May..and if I don't get off WL... I'd just find a new job or... ?

Do people get off the wait list much anymore? I thought schools do more over-accepting, assuming that if they accept 300 probably 150 are going to decline anyways. This leads to very little wait list movement.

This was just the impression I got from reading the school specific threads the last couple of years. You used to see a huge number of folks get off the wait lists in late May, but these days not so much?

yeah that's what I'm trying to figure out too for one of the schools I'm WL'd at.... it they over-accept or accept spot for spot then pull off the WL 🙁 man waitlist does suck who am i kidding

No, you should give up all hope and just give up!

Not as bad as getting rejected.

I was accepted off the waitlist from the first school I interviewed at after being on it for 3 months. Def. better than a rejection!

It means you can't use the "at least you weren't rejected" spiel to make yourself feel better, since everyone who isn't outright accepted is waitlisted.

Who does this? I haven't heard of this before.
