Is it bad to submit a primary but not a secondary?

So I have a pretty decent app that I applied with this cycle, but my primary wasn't verified until mid to late september. By then, I had realized that spending an absurd amount of money on secondaries wouldn't be smart because I was way too late (I got lazy with secondaries too, most submitted mid october to mid november, real shame, I have a ~70 LizzyM score).

I'm likely going to reapply, and I'd like to apply to a few of the schools where I submitted a primary but not a secondary. Will not submitting a secondary hurt me at these schools? If so, how much?

Nope, it seems to be fairly common. That's why secondaries usually come with a "submit secondary in 30 days." However, even though you didn't complete a secondary, you are considered a reapplicant to those schools that you selected to submit your primary app for AMCAS purposes! Not indicating so could delay your verification. Good luck!

You'll be considered a reapplicant to any schools you submitted your primary to, if I am correct. Don't know how much this will hurt you, given that you didn't submit any secondaries.

Better have a reason you didn't do the secondary just in case you get asked. Most schools will probably think you just got rejected last cycle from schools you prioritized to attend unless you tell them you didn't complete any secondaries.

Well would the money aspect along with realizing that I applied way to late be a valid reason?

Yes.

If you should do this on the next round, you might send an email withdrawing the application officially to save getting those nagging emails that they're waiting to hear from you.

Next time around I'm not making any mistakes that I made from this cycle. My school list is carefully thought out and researched and I'm already working on my essays. I've even worked out the finances for secondaries, I know I have the funds to apply to all the schools I've chosen, and I have some wiggle room for some reach schools. It's all getting in on the first possible date, but those emails were a bit naggy, I'll admit.

Well done.

Yeah. Bad for the blood pressure when you're already stressed out as it is.
