I'm starting to think about my personal statement for residency, and I was wondering if it would be bad to use some parts of my personal statement that I used when applying to Medical School. I had some medically related life experiences that I used, that are know applicable to the specialty I am interested in.

Has anyone else done this, or do most just start from scratch? Heck, I could almost just use the same one! (Just kidding on that last sentence).

I sort of used it as a template, but that's because I already knew what I wanted to go into when I applied to medical school. In the end, I re-wrote a lot of it because it sounded ridiculously idealistic, but it was at least a good jumping off point. I always find that getting started with these things is the hardest part.

When I was an intern, we were doing this group session where they gave us back our personal statements to look at. I literally had no idea which was mine because they all sounded identical.

Moral: Just don't say something insane in your personal statement and otherwise it doesn't matter what you write.
