Is it common to have silence from so many schools?

I applied to 20 schools, completed all between mid July and early August. I’ve heard back from 6 (2 holds, 4 IIs), but haven’t heard a thing from the other 14.

Im fortunate to have a few IIs already so the silence isn’t stressing me out really, but I’m just curious if it’s typical to still have heard nothing from the majority of schools? Have y’all heard back from most of your schools already?

EDIT: most of my schools do rolling admissions, but all but 1 of the six schools I’ve heard back from are non-rolling.

That sounds about right. I’ve heard back from a majority of my applications, but I’m a slight outlier. 4/20 is a good place to be now. Approximately half of all II have gone out.

It’s normal completed 42 secondaries have heard from 8 of them including silence from schools who have already sent out holds, rejections or II. I was complete early July to Early August. and if you go through the school threads there are many people who have submitted early july and haven't heard back. be happy with your 4 II. there is no formula to when you will hear back from any school no matter when you were complete

Focus your energy on preparing for your interviews rather than wondering when you will hear back from the other schools. The former you have control over while the later you don’t

I completed roughly 23 secondaries I believe, between MD and DO schools... I haven't heard ANYTHING and was complete mid/end July... Literally silence all around (minus one pre secondary reject in early July and one other rejection from a very bias state school that probably saw my average stats as an OOS applicant and gave me the R back in July as well)

I'm in the same boat! 20 secondaries, complete mid-Aug at all. Have 2 Holds (GW/Tulane) and nothing else. I thought I had a decent app and was strategic in my school list, but at this point I've been picking apart everything I wrote in my secondaries 🙄

Only thing we can do is wait, send some updates a little later on in the cycle and cross our fingers! Wishing you all the best!

It's just like publication bias: people who are on SDN a lot are probably more invested in their med school app thus have higher stats, people who have lots of II are more likely to post on school-specific threads. Don't let those high-achievers with 8 or 10 II intimidate you. You just need one acceptance to become an MD.

Yes, very common. Cut them some slack, will you? Med schools get 5-15000 apps!

Very normal. I didn't get my I from the school where I attend until February. I had 3 interviews after Christmas break. Be patient.
