I have good GPA >3.8 but my first MCAT was terrible. I received 24 (7,8,9R), good EC's. I am thinking of taking MCAT again but I am also going to apply to DO schools. With these scores, I understand my chances are slim to get in a DO school but If I get admitted to a DO school, I will start my work there.

If I do not like the school for what ever reason, can I then apply to other MD schools? tht is if I am ready to sacrifice one year and start the process all over again? Will the MD schools even consider my app with better MCAT scores at that time? or this is not permitted.

applying to med school is discouraged at the very least if you are currently enrolled in medical school of any kind. You also must state whether you have ever attended (or matriculated, I can't remember) medical school before and why you are reapplying. This, basically, is the kiss of death for an application if you state YES with an excuse such as "I don't like it here". You need exceptional circumstances such as "I got cancer during my first year" to justify withdrawing and reapplying (but here again, I think you would need to show why your old school wouldn't just put you on a leave of absence and reinstate you).

Basically, BAD IDEA. If you go, that's where you end up. You'd have better luck attempting a transfer between your 2nd and 3rd year. There are a few who accomplish transferring, but not many. And I've only heard of one going DO -> MD for transfer.

you're not thinking of taking the MCAT again, you are most certainly taking the MCAT again, seriously.
