I'll post this on the allopathic thread as well, but wanted to know if you all have any ideas:

So I got into my top choice school, Rochester! I just have one really big concern right now about going there.

My girlfriend and I would likely live ~30 minutes from the school (there's a reason for it, don't want to waste your time with details) and I was wondering if commuting is feasible. My understanding is that while winters in upstate NY are brutal, they also have the equipment to take care of the snow and poor weather should only be an issue maybe 2-3 times/year (I can live with that). I guess my bigger concern is during the 3rd and 4th years--would it be impossible to have a 30-40 minute commute during clinical rotations?

Any insight/advice/ideas/suggestions are GREATLY appreciated. I really, really, really want Rochester to work out for us.

Very feasible.....I have been commuting to my undergrad for 3 and a half years. It's about 45 miles away (but at 75 mph it only takes me about 35-40 minutes). I just recently got accepted to my first choice and now my commute is only 10 minutes🙂

I have to admit I am going to miss my morning ritual of stopping at the neighborhood gas station to grab a cup of coffee. Then waking up while listening to the Bob and Sheri show. 🙁

One concern is money it costs me per month $120.00 in gas to commute the distance. It's something to think about because over time it makes a financial difference. Personally I am looking forward to spending the extra 80 bucks on something else (like myself).

30 mins a day is really not bad. I have friends who drive for about 20-25 to come to school every day.

I can definately see it working ...

Good luck!
