Lets say after your d1 year, you have some sort of emergency and need to go away for sometime. Would a dental school allow you to take a year (or two) off and come back as a d2 or would you have to drop out and reapply?

usually it is a case by case basis. They certainly want to avoid that for numerous reasons, but it is not unheard of. Once you're in, they want to keep you in as much as is reasonably possible, but if you think that you're going to be in that kind of situation, perhaps it would be better to delay dental school.

Are you expecting something? If that's the case, you might be better off waiting until it's over.

I wouldn't go that far automatically - as perhaps the thing that could happen might not. That being said if you think the 'thing' is going to occur, and its severe, that perhaps you would be better off waiting
