Hey all--

I have been traveling a lot for interviews and have missed ~3 weeks of class if not more. Is it bad that I'm starting to check out mentally from wanting to gun for the A to just being okay with B's? I'm so behind and so exhausted from working so hard; I just can't seem to justify the lack of sleep anymore or the misery. Is it going to affect my chances of getting in/can medical schools rescind my acceptance for having straight B's in my last semester in college? I'm from TX if that helps but I go to Cornell.

You're trying to aim for a straight A in Cornell??? Don't do it brother, have a life and be happy with the straight B's and go into med school afterwards with a sane mind. As long as D's and F's don't appear, you're fine. Oh, and take the wine class; it's a hard course but def. worth it (comes from first hand experience 😎)

Well I've had mostly A's (freshman year was not so hot), so I've always worked really hard, pulled crazy hours, balanced working multiple jobs, and doing ec's (sorry if my grammar is off--just coming off of a night of little sleep). This semester I'm feeling very stressed because I missed two weeks before my last biochemistry exam and got a B+ on it, and then I missed a ton more class and don't know if I can get an A without compromising my health, relationships, sanity, etc. I know med school is a lot of sacrifice and work, and I'm aware of that, but I also don't plan to skip so much class in med school and to work at the same time. I'm a non-science major so I'm worried about what med schools will think (esp. top tier).

Do lighter coursework

Another Cornellian here.

While I agree that there is a huge grade deflation at Cornell - nobody outside seems to know or care. Take a lighter course load, get those A's and focus on you EC's. Kind of wish I took my own advice, it will save you a headache later.

Solid advice.

yes of course it is bad. when is failing (or doing poor relative to what you know you're capable of) a good thing? man up

No. Unless you wind up being a re-applicant next year, which it doesn't sound like you will.

I can't take a lighter course load....because I've already dropped down to 12 hours.

Man, you must be really neurotic when you're worrying about a B+ in one test of Biochemistry. Relax. If you're applying this cycle, your grades are not gonna affect your chances too much unless its straight C's or below. Managing time and finding balance in life is also a trait they look for in medical schools, so you should start applying that for this semester and next. Once again, chill

It's only hard because you are drunk while taking the "tests."
Those professors will do anything to make you fail!

You got a B+ on a Biochemistry exam?! Oh jeeze I feel so bad for you. Every school will see that B+ and automatically reject you. The Carribean might be better suited to your needs anyways.

B is for Biochemistry. 😎

Haha true. So many people failed that class even though it's pass fail. On a side note, I love wines and been studying them for several years before taking the course anyways, so it was a joke for me. Can't wait till I go on wine tours in California, Europe, South America, Australia/New Zealand, and Pacific Northwest
