Every so often on here I'll see someone come on and say..."Hey is Crack PAT DAT easier than the real thing?... I just got a 24 on my first test." So I just wanna ask, is it really possible to score that high for a person's first time around (or even second or third)?

I mean even if they are gifted in PAT... I'd expect something more like a 20 in the beginning just because they arent used to the format. For me... I've been practicing PAT for a while now and I've only got a 20 once, but usually get a 17 or 18. So I just get mind boggled when a fresh fish comes along and hits a 23+ like its nothing.

...or maybe this just goes along with what they say about PAT, either you got it or you dont?

I think I started Crack with a 23 first time around, not sure though. I did some Kaplan before that and the one on the ADA website so it wasn't the first time being exposed. But I averaged slightly lower than a 25 on the 10 crack tests and got a 26 on the real deal. I would say you get the PAT or not, and thankfully I just get that kind of stuff. Not saying that someone w/o perceptual skills can't do well on the PAT, it will just take a lot more time and dedication, and that will only get you so far.

In order to get a high score like 26, is it necessary to move on once you've found an answer your pretty sure about, rather than check the rest that you havent looked at yet? Like say you get a to a problem and already B looks really good, do u just select B and move on, or do u check the rest to see if there is something better?

I always check the other answers for keyholes, tfe, and pattern folding but not for the other ones and I do alright

That strat is best for cube and hole punching. If I found my answer, I selected it and moved on. Pattern folding I kind of did that, but also eliminated ones because at that point I had a lot of time left and figured I might as well make sure. I would not disregard answers on keyhole, TFE, or angles. These are meant to have little tricks so you have to look for them. You want to find the best answer, because on test day, a lot of those problems have 3 really attractive wrong answers. I would say that speed and time mgt. are key. Go fast on the section you are best at, don't dwell on hard ones, and have a very short memory (as in if you think you got ones wrong, forget about them and focus on the remaining ones). If you can go quickly, you can have anywhere from 2-15 mins of extra time to review answers. The last thing you want to do is run out of time because there are a lot of pattern folding problems that are sure gimmies, and you do not want to miss those.

I just took a PAt practice test from Dat ach. and found the hole punching extremely challenging. Are those kinds of folds going to be on the real thing. Overall I found the ach. PAT test really hard (I got a 17 🙁

Should I be worried? I averaged bout 18-19 on top score....

There is nothing wrong with a 17 on achiever PAT. There is with TopScore though. Check out some other PAT/achiever/topscore forums to see the relationships but achiever is too hard and topscore is too easy but closer to the real thing. Crack is closest in my opinion, I would buy that if you have the money and time.

Took my first crack today and got an 18. I struggled on the TFE section, those are tough. Sometimes I see one and then I look at the answers and I just have no idea what to do with those.
