If you've been invited for an interview in a far-away city, is it rude to call up other schools in the area to ask whether they have any plans to interview you?

What if one of these other schools specifically sent a little card saying "we have your secondary... things take time... you need not contact the office?"

I hate to pester these people, but I certainly wasn't expecting to hear from schools this early, and it would be reeeallly nice to save money on airfare! Thanks for your help!

I don't think it's rude. Other people have done this, and were lucky enough to schedule interviews around the same time. If you do a search on this topic, you should find theads on people who are in the same situation as you are.

After our last encounter you walked away in shame, on this day you shall crawl, tomorrow you shall lay, the next day you shall rise, the next you shall sink.

I don't think it would be rude to ask. Just be nice about it.

It's not rude at all. The application process is expensive enough, so they are more than understanding about your situation. Screw what the mass-mailed card said. Everyone's situation is unique. As long as you're nice about it, and understand that it's not always possible to group interviews, you should def call. Bottom line...doesn't hurt to ask.

I've heard of people calling schools to reschedule interviews so that they would could be done in one trip to a distant city....but to call and say "Are you going to interview me, and if so can it be on such and such a day.." I think that might be a bit much (I realize you wouldn't say it that bluntly).

I got this email recently

"We are happy to inform you that your application to the Albert Einstein College of Medicine is complete and will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee.

If you have applied to the combined M.D./Ph.D. Program, you will be contacted directly by that Office.

If your application is favorably reviewed during a preliminary screening, you will be invited for an interview via email. We would appreciate your not calling the office to ascertain the disposition of your folder.

Please note that interviews are granted only by decision of the Admissions Committee.

If you are planning a trip to New York, please let us know the dates so that we may accommodate you in the event that an interview invitation is forthcoming.
It is important that we have a correct email address for you and suggest that you notify both the medical schools that you have applied to, and AMCAS if there is any change in your email or mailing address.

Disposition letters are sent via first class mail when a final decision is made on your application.

If there is any additional information that you would like to include with your application as the year progresses, please feel free to either mail it or fax it to 718-430-8840.

We thank you again for your interest in the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
