I finally got a chance to talk about programs with one of my advisors.
Although I do have 11 interviews lined up, he thinks that I'm missing a couple programs that might suit my career goal, research interest and personality.
So I am definitely thinking about adding a couple more.

Are all the interview invites out already?

Even if a program filled all their interview dates, sometimes they have cancellations and send out last minute interview invites. It's worth a shot.

i added a program in mid October and got an invite 2 days later. it is a well respected program too.

I recently spoke with a PD at a prominent program who said they have filled "about half" their interview spots and were still actively reviewing applications. I also know some programs fill all there interview spots very early in the application season. Bottom line is, if you're interested then go ahead and apply. It's certainly not going to hurt, and worst case scenario is you don't get offered an interview.

hehe, glad I listened to you guys at that time. Heard back from the programs.

Problem is, I am adding 2 more tonight (heard about how awesome these two programs are over my interview trail).
Should I contact the program directors via emails first?
I want to kick myself in the butt for not researching programs enough at first and one of the two problems I want to add actually offers something that really fits my career goal.

Hmm... I don't want to sound desperately and all but I want to email the PDs....

I would not contact the PD first. Just send in your application. If a program has an interview slot and you are the best applicant, they will likely invite you. If they don't have a slot, it will be tough to get an interview by sending an email. You'd have to do a great sales job on me via email to convince me to add you if I don't have a slot.

So I also added programs late... like like week. I am actually interested in the programs, just didn't add them in the first place because of location. But now I think I'd prefer quality > location. I haven't heard from them... should I e-mail them? Any chance I'll hear from them?

There's always a chance you'll hear from them. Calling a PD is a mixed bag -- unless you know them or they have some reason to find you more attractive than other equally qualified people, it may not be worthwhile.
