I've been working on my personal statement for some time now. It used to be longer than the 4500 character limit, and now after so many drafts, I think I finally got it to how I want it. But now it's under by about 850 characters. Do you think it's too short? Would the admissions committee say I lacked detail, etc?

Thanks so much for the advice!

It's not how long or short your essay is, it's all about what you say in it. In all fairness, it should be longer than two or three sentences, but I don't think that admissions want to read novels either.

I think that as long as you cover the important reasons why you want pharmacy, you should be fine. Whether it is four paragraphs or five is just silly.

I have 4484 characters!

i know it said 4500 characters but does that include space or no space? MS Word has a count for both.

I was going to post that size doesn't really matter, but I see that this post wasn't about what I was thinking.😀

When I first started writing my essay I just wrote in a stream on conscience kind of way and I ended up with two pages. After editing, and reworking it I got it down to about 4400 characters. I've had several of ppl read it and to them it flows rather smoothly and doesn't seem long at all. I think regardless of how long your essay is it needs to be coherent and doesn't appear like your just taking up space.

I'm pretty sure they count the spaces.

It does, and mine is HUGE. 😉

I'm personally not too worried about this. You have your grades, your experience, your scores, so why worry about a silly essay? Just leave a few honest words. I'm not sure, but I imagine they appriciate senerity more than length, or creative writing.

I agree, you want it to be reasonable close to the specified length but more importantly you want it to tell the reader who you are and why you want to become a pharmacist. If it sounds good and relays the message: submit! 😉 Good luck!!!!:luck:
