I have a pretty simple question. Is it true that 80% of the question on USMLE Step 2 Ck are from IM? I don't plan on neglecting the other subjects of course but I'd like to know anyway.

Now I know you can't give me an exact percentage but I was hoping you could at least give me a rough estimate. I know that the questions are random and computer generated but I'm pretty sure there has never been a test in which the majority of questions were from psych or ob/gyn.

well i havent taken the test yet

I did pour over NBME documents, and I did not get a precise number

(though looking at the Internal medicine boards First Aid, they give a % breakdown of each system/discipline; however, it is not in First Aid Step2CK)

I should bring up that the pediatrics chapters contains a LOT of internal medicine

Not the "what foods can you introduce at what age? or the developmental milestones"

I mean the pediatric organ systems... contain a lot of internal medicine

Took CK about 2 weeks ago. My exam was definitely >60% peds/ob/gyn. Another 10% psych. In one section, I counted 32/44 question stems with, "A 4 year old...," "A 26 year old G2P1 at 28 weeks..." etc etc.

Caught me off guard.

More than 60% ob/gyn and peds?!?! Jesus Christ. ob/gyn is my worst subject🙁. I thought IM was the cake and everything else just the icing. I guess its back to the drawing board.

i would definitely agree. Not even close to 80% IM. I would say ob/gyn was my biggest subject by far. Lots of questions with pregos. Next, I would say Peds was big. I had nearly no renal, some pulm, a few surgery cases (ie trauma situation), and more than I was expecting ethics questions, which it sounds like a lot of people had a similar experience.

Ob/gyn isn't that bad. Just pretend like you don't have a functioning brain, and you're as good as any ob/gyn.

I don't agree with what he said, but I will defend to the death his right to say it

After all, this is America

on a more related note to the guy who made the comment, just because OBGYN doesn't have the highest of board scores, doesn't mean they don't think

In fact, this pervious year, the mean step 1 score for OBGYN match was 220... same ballpark as internal medicine..

do internists not think?

everybody thinks they got a lot of questions from what they did bad on or were uncomfortable with 🙂 ... those question leave an impact on your during the exam (they piss you off) .. so you remember them more than those questions you answered in a heart beat.

Nearly no renal and pulmo? Jeez. I'm still kinda shocked as to how wrong I was, especially since I almost thought that if I knew IM pretty well I could easily get a good score. Anyway I've read the ob/gyn part of b&w which is pretty good and am currently doing Kaplan Q-book questions for all subjects

BTW anyone have any opinions on the Kaplan USMLE Step 2 Q-book? I've tried UWorld but hated it because it made me feel like a complete *****. I was getting pretty much everything wrong. I'm still going to continue doing it but was just wondering how good the Kaplan Q-book was in preparation for the USMLE Step 2 CK?

I used qbook during the year for shelves--it was fine, certainly not uworld worthy but it did a fair job.

As for the original question, I took it yesterday and it certainly seemed less than 80% IM. More like 50% IM (including a decent number of step 1 type questions) and the remaining 50% a mix of surgery (lots of trauma!), peds, ob/gyn and psych.
