is it true that only strong applicants can get in this late in the app cycle?

So I am guessing its a bit too late to apply between now and say March?

I always assumed that if you applied before the deadlines than perhaps you could get a seat?

If a school is trying to fill it's last few slots by trying to decide between a pool of borderline candidates, throwing your name into the hat if you're also marginal isn't going to give you any sort of a leg up. That's why it's always advisable for marginal candidates to apply as early as possible.

That being said, I always encourage people to apply. If you're going to get rejected, let them reject you. Don't reject yourself.

I know that I'm applying late and it is best to apply early but like KHE said, it's best for the schools to reject you. I actually talked with an admissions counselor at SCO and told him that I wasn't taking my OAT until January. He told me that was fine because most schools look at your overall GPA (and my GPA is pretty good...my science is a little lower than my overall and I explained that to him) and OAT scores as a determining factor for entrance into Optometry School.
