Is it worth going for derm if my school has no derm department?

MS3 here, I got a great step score and figure I would explore dermatology because why not. My school doesn't have a derm department though, I figure it would be an uphill battle for me to try and match into derm though. What's the best way to explore my interest and do research/get letters etc if my school doesn't have a derm dept?

Away rotations and connecting with people at conferences

As above. However figure out a better reason than why not. Hopefully do this by rotations early in third year so that you can figure out if it's for you. If not then connect with a nearby medical school hopefully they have a mentorship program.
