I’m a rising junior philosophy major and really want to do a combined bs/mph program
In epidemiology. In this program I would finish all my undergrad classes junior year and start taking epi classes senior year(with room for one or two undergrad classes). I will then be able to finish my masters in three semesters (or technically a semester after I obtain my bachelors degree) while using my undergrad scholarship saving a significant amount of money.

I really like this program because it offers significant research and applied public health experience. So far I have racked up almost 1000 hours of research in the past year and I know for sure I want to work as an MD researcher in the public health field. My only problem with doing this program is that my science gpa is very low and I may need more upper level science classes to repair my gpa. This upcoming year I’m taking 23 credits worth of sciences classes (physics 1 and 2+lab, biochem, human phys, research credits, OChem lab, physics of human body 1 and 2) however idk if it will be enough to raise my science gpa up significantly and I don’t want to take any chances of being screened out. I did get a 4.0 this summer taking 10 credits which is practically a whole semester and a 3.8 last semester(18 credits) showing an upwards trend. So I believe that I can do a lot better in my sciences because I have changed my study methods significantly since freshmen year.

My parents think that philosophy is a useless major and I should just take up a double major in biology and forgot about the MPH(if I majored in biology I wouldn’t be able to finish all my undergrad classes by junior year and therefore wouldn’t be able to do the masters senior year). I think biology is a useless degree on its own however it would give me an opportunity to take more upper level science classes

What are you guy’s thoughts?
