I'm planning on taking the DAT on July 18 and was wondering if that is too late. When is considered too late to take the DAT?

I don't think it is too late. The first batches of applications go out at the end of June, anytime in June or July is early enough IMO.
It is not too late what so ever. I took my DAT on August 11, 2014 and then promptly sent out my application through AADSAS. I got interview offers from all the schools I applied to in September, did my interviews in October, and was accepted to my top school of choice on December 1. Just get everything turned in IMMEDIATELY upon taking your test, and if your application is strong, you will be fine.

Make sure you have your application done the week it comes out. That's the best thing I can tell you. I took my DAT 6/24 and until it was sent to and processed by AADSAS, it took almost 3-4 weeks. Just make sure your application is done, and then focus on your DAT.

Wasn't too late for me. I took mine mid august, 4 predec interviews and I was accepted. I would recommend the rest of your application be submitted before then as it takes a few weeks for your score to be sent to aadsas and then your schools.

nope not too late at all
just make sure you do your best and score well....so study really really hard cuz you really dont want to retake...trust me i speak from experience of retaking mine.
also i think you should complete your application first because sometimes it takes them a while to upload transcripts and verify gpa's, longer than verifying dat scores.
and just indicate on your AADSAS that your test date is in july. This way the schools will just be waiting for your dat scores and not your entire application.
Even if you dont send your application in first you should still be fine. As long everything is complete before end of august you are still considered early.
Most schools this cycle didnt start sending out invites till late august early september anyways.
