Post-residency of course. And by part-time I mean working 3 or 4 days a week, in the 30 hour per week range. Obviously the pay would be significantly less, but if I could hit the $200,000 mark I'd be thrilled.

Trying to figure out what I want to do with my life. Can see doing EM, Anesthesiology, or a few other things. Like the idea of having some week days off. Don't like the idea of working tons of nights and weekends to do it (ala EM, though I am more than happy to take my share of weekend/night call).

Just curious if that's realistic in Anesthesiology. I could probably do a search on this topic, but would like to get "up to date" thoughts.

Thanks all.

Here are just a couple that I found really quick:

Part time anesthesiologists?
"Mommy Track"
Part time anesthesia

As a fellow medical student, and only a 2nd year, I don't have anything else to add here... 😎

Oh my goodness yes. Don't sweat it. It is one of the beauties of our profession.

Second on do a search.

That being said, your goals are reasonably realistic if you don't mind averaging. If you expect to never work more than 4 days per week, never more than 30 hours, and still make 200, you might have a problem.

I typically work 3 weeks out of every 4 with a 1-2 nights of call per week of work and one weekend of call per month. That is pretty close to an average of 4 days per week. I suspect that I work more than 30 per week, but if I took a pay cut I could get it down to 30 on average.

It isn't the job I expected to be doing when I started med school (2 weeks on 2 weeks off family practice in rural Alaska at 150), but I love it.
