I was asked at the end about if there's anything else I wanted to say about my app. I said something similar to "I feel that I would be a great fit for your school because of x, y, z... etc." I said it to show interest for the school, but do you think that was a bad move considering how its not really up to me to decide whether or not I'm a fit?

it is up to you to decide whether you're a good fit!

i think that type of question is exactly where you are supposed to kind of "sell yourself" and say why you're a good fit/a unique candidate.
I say this all the time during the interview

That sounds fine.

The common mistake I have heard during employment interviews is, "I can do anything, even if I have never seen it. Show it to me and I can do it". Some kind of variation on that statement. You want to say you are going to seek the resources and put in the maximum effort to do your best, etc. So if they are asking about something you have never seen before, don't say you can do anything, say you will try your best and do things right...

Kind of OT, I know.

I think I'd be OK with it.

This question is your best chance imo to sell yourself.

I always talk about myself and some characteristics that resonate with what the medical school is looking for

That sounds like a great response. You are, after all, interviewing the school as much as they're interviewing you to see if they would be a good fit for you. The street goes two ways. It doesn't work out well if the school thinks you're a good fit and you attend but end up finding out that it's not a good fit for you. That's something you should always be keeping in mind when you're interviewing. Schools within the same "tier" (for lack of a better word) will all give you excellent resources and education. Just because one school is #7 while another is #12 doesn't mean that the first will give you a better quality education. So within the same tier, you should choose medical schools that "fit" with you most - and it's excellent that you're already thinking about it.

As a suggestion, I would say "I feel like this school is an excellent fit for me because..." instead of "I feel like I am a good fit for this school..." because the former doesn't sound arrogant whereas the latter could border on it because you're doing their analysis for them.

That is exactly what you're supposed to do. Demonstrates you've researched the school and many interviewers actually are concerned with how applicants would fit in so this helps them with that.

I think it's fine. Shows you'd put some thought into it (assuming you didn't give generic reasons).

I said this and the interviewer ended up saying the reasons why. It is a good technique to implant the thought in their mind. So when they ask each other the fit question there is an available example fresh in their mind as to why you would be a good fit.

Remember, the school is interviewing you, but you're also interviewing the school. I think what you said is great!
