If I submit my AMCAS on July 5th, will I be late for the chance to get secondaries at the earliest time...but more importantly, I antiicipate sending my secondaries out as soon as I get them (because ill work on them early)...so ULTIMATELY, will it affect me in terms of landing interviews..

Thanks.

Given the fact that schools only examine your application when it is fully complete (including secondaries), the earlier you complete the secondaries, the better. So, I'd say you're in good shape if you're looking to complete your secondaries as soon as you get them.

If you don't mind my asking, is there a reason you're waiting until July 5 to submit your primary? It can take several weeks for them to process your application as it is.

i plan on submitting around the same time. I'm taking the july 2nd mcat so my scores won't be available till early august anyways. hopefully amcas can process my application in 4 weeks 🙄

and i wouldnt call it "late," its not early, but not late. probably right in the middle

You won't get your secondaries at the earliest time, since it'll take a couple weeks to verify you, but it probably won't affect your chances for interviews significantly.

i sent in my amcas September 27th and it was verified on October 7 of 2008. Procrastinated on my secondaries.

I got multiple acceptances. You are not late at all.

well its not he issue of being LATE...more of of being early enough to get interviews just as someone who applied say a month earlier...the key thing is that I PLAN on completing secondary essays (by working on them, asking SDN people for the essays) BEFORE I actually receive them...so essentially within a two days i should send the secondaries...would it be good then?

👍 Agree. Not early, not late. And not dawdling on secondaries can only help, you'll have some time to prework those while AMCAS does the verification jive.

You want to be complete by early September, and it seems you are perfectly on pace. Stop sweating.

Just don't bank on rare cases like whoever posted before me, got verified in October, and received multiple acceptances.

as long as you get your secondaries + LOR + MCAT + payment (if you are waiting for dolo, I guess that would hinder, maybe you want to put it on a credit card) quickly, you be fine

Not late at all (assuming your credentials are at least decently competitive). I've seen my friends submit their AMCAS apps in mid-July and even early-Aug and they still managed to get into many reputable schools.

Hi all.
Im taking the aug 6 MCAT. I know the results dont come out till 4 weeks later. So do I have to wait till early sept to submit my amcas or can i do that before the mcat is out?
Really dont know how this all works...

You can submit before your MCAT score is released. It takes awhile for your AMCAS to be verified, anyway. When your MCAT score is ready, it'll be added to the rest of your application.

IT's definitely not considered to be late. Don't listen to all the overachievers in sdn.😀

You can submit AMCAS without your MCAT score, you simply need to check off the box saying that you are taking it in the future. You're application will then be put on hold until MCAT score received. I was originally going to do the same thing, since I'm not happy with my April score and retaking 8/6. However, after talking with some people here, with my low ugrad gpa I didn't feel comfortable not being 'under review' until mid-september (when they get my new mcat score and when secondaries are sent in), especially since my state schools' deadline for secondaries is October it would've been very late in their cycle. With that in mind I moved my test to September and decided to apply next cycle.

Just more food for thought. If you have good numbers and experiences though, completing AMCAS ahead of time, and taking in August will not put you at a significant disadvantage.

That's the "additional MCAT" section, right?

Submitting your AMCAS before you get your MCAT score doesn't do a whole lot for you in terms of saving time. Bottom line, your application isn't complete and won't be forwarded to the med schools, until AMCAS receives your MCAT score. If you are not going to get your score until September, I think you should wait until next year to apply. I have a couple of friends who were in similar shoes, and they were not accepted to any MD programs. Good luck.

The people who are submitting in July, or at least taking the MCAT then are fine, but I'm going to agree with nabilalk and say that you're better off waiting until next year. You can submit your AMCAS without an MCAT score, but I personally wouldn't. If you don't get the score you want, you're stuck having paid the money and submitted your primary. If you do get a good score, you're still bordering on late.

Let's say you get your score at the beginning of September and then you submit your primary that day. It'll still take AMCAS a couple weeks to verify your transcripts and all that good stuff. You'll get some secondaries right off the bat at the schools that don't screen primaries, but at the schools that do, you're looking at another couple of weeks before you get their secondaries. Even if you could get those secondaries finished in a day or two, you're looking at late September or early October before you're complete at all the schools. Considering the deadline for most schools is in November or December, you're already closer to the deadline than you are the start.

Yes there are people who get accepted having applied "late," including someone in this thread, but in your case, you're still better off waiting until next year.

Errr, I thought you could send in primary once transcripts/PS/ECs are in, and begin on secondaries, etc without LORs and MCAT scores? And once AMCAS receives your LORs/scores, they flip a few flags, and now the schools have your full packet? I'm taking MCAT on 7/30.

I have to wait until next Monday to submit and begin verifaction anyways, because the registrar's office has been closed for the past two weeks (and this one) on break.

e: AAMC would make a fortune if they offered the option for rush scoring for like $50. They could probably charge $100, and still make mad coin.

As for submitting the primaries prior to mcat scores, I guess you'd have to be somewhat certain that no matter what score you get your still applying this year and give it your best shot. So as far as taking the MCAT in August you'd better have your primaries submitted by then so that right after taking the MCAT in early August you can turn around and complete any secondaries that you have. That way while your waiting for you MCAT scores and AMCAS to verify you've gotten all secondaries that don't screen completed. Then in early september your primary and mcat score should be complete and you'll be complete at those schools. After that just knock out all other secs as you recieve them. Complete in early to mid september doesn't sound too late in my book.

I took the June 18th MCAT.
My AMCAS application says "MCAT Intent Date 6/18/09"

By the time it gets verified, my score should be out already.

So will AMCAS replace the "MCAT Intent Date" with my actual score? Or will schools be getting my application bundled with an "update letter with scores"?

I asked about this on another thread before, but I got no relevant responses 🙁

I'm not an adcom so don't take this as the absolute truth:

I would imagine that now that the application process is all electronic, and since score reports get sent out to schools daily, that once you get your score it will be sent all to all the schools you've applied to. Therefore it shouldn't matter if your 'intent date' has already passed by, especially if schools have received your score report already. Worst case scenario is you'd get put on 'hold for mcat scores' for a day or two, your new score comes in mid-july, bam you're under review.

God I hope not, cuz I'm not ready to submit yet either...took the June 18th MCAT, felt so good to have it over and done with that I shut off my brain for like the following 10 days! lol then I realized I was gonna be screwed if I didn't get with the program...=/

I don't think July 5 is that late...I submitted today and I doubt that I'll be verified much sooner than you will...we should be fine.

4.0 GPA, 32 MCAT, lots of leadership EC, and some Research. Do you think Mid to late July is too late to submit my primaries guys?!
