Is Sept MCAT too late for this cycle?

Hi,

I took 5/6 MCAT scored a 497 and I am planning on retaking for Sept 10th. My app is already submitted and should be verified soon. I saw that one school on AACOMAS made a point to say that Sept MCATs are accepted, so I assume there are some schools that don't accept them then?

I could take it late August but that is a difference of two weeks or so and since I am working I could use the extra time..

What are your other stats? If you have stellar GPAs then I dont think its too late as long as you are already verified.

True story, I took a January mcat. Got an acceptance. Do I recommend it? No way. But with slightly above average app with a improved mcat, you be okay for atleast one acceptance.

Atleast a 3.4/3.5 gpa though

3.44 sGPA and cGPA, upward trend fom 2.1 to 3.7, above average LORs, PS, and pretty solid ECs. From FL.

Just called LECOM-B, they said they screen out apps below 495, so I know I will get a secondary, but it sucks--it seems like that does not mean much since their average MCAT is around a 502. A 497 is about 2 SDs away...

So that is why I want ti retake the MCAT. Even the new schools, like the one in Arkansas require a 500 minimum which I actually think is way too high personally lol

Yes, but Oct is bordering on late, so you need to score extremely well!! Aim for like 510, but at this point the only thing you can do is study.

Unfortunately since you already submitted you might get auto screened out for some schools, which can be almost impossible to fix. Once it comes in update it on AACOMAS, but also email the schools and let them know. Good Luck!

I called a bunch of schools. They said just email them. But also it seems, at least for the schools I applied to, I won't be auto screened out, but after the secondary it's anyone's guess.

Also, should I sign up for late August if that makes a difference, or does it not?

I read somewhere that you can submit your application with one throw away school which you don't care much. Then retake MCAT should be ok? If you improve your MCAT score then add more schools.

Yes, that is an option assuming you are going to score significantly higher. If you score 500 on retake then at some schools you may have been better off being early, so it's a toss up. There are threads about what schools have MCAT cutoffs, so I'd definitely wait to submit to those. The others it's up to you.

They're is no difference between late august and early Sept. Study hard and get a good score. You're already going to be verified, so you're in good shape. Its not early, but it shouldn't kill your app, and worst case scenario you apply again next year. No point in delaying a whole year for a Sept. MCAT. If I did that, I'd be a year behind where I am now in med school.
