Is taking an online class before applying to Grad school a good idea?

I have been out of school of over 6 years and I am VERY exited I decided to get my Masters in Psychology.

I wonder, should I take an online class or two before I actually do it? Would this do me good or is it a waste of money?

If so, what class would you recommend?

Thanks👍

What type of program do you want? A Masters in Psychology usually won't make you licensable to practice--for that, you'd probably need a Masters in Counseling or Social Work--Psychology Masters are generally used as stepping stones to get into PhD programs.

Why would you want to take an online class? Online programs in psychology generally aren't a good idea.

Yes, I originally wanted to get it as a stepping stone to get to PhD, BUT I have come around to decide on Masters in Marriage and Family Counseling... which is what I meant.

I was just thinking an online class due to my hectic work schedule at this time mainly... Plus I am not aware of any actual Grad schools that would allow me to take a class or two without signing on for the whole degree?

If you already have the prerequisites for the programs that you're planning to apply to, I doubt it would help to take an extra class or two (unless perhaps you need one more letter of recommendation, in which case an online class wouldn't be the best way to go anyway). 🙂 Good luck!
