Alot of people asked me "What Happened?," so here is my answer.
I took molecular cell bio in the past, which I was hoping to be counted as biochem, but I was not sure about it.
I am doing my masters, and yes I took Biochem again...
It might be safe for you to take it as well...Thank you everyone...

/Hello, I just have this question.
Is taking biochem absolutely necessary?

depends on where you are applying. I know for sure it is necessary for UW (2 quarters worth) and UCLA (1 quarter).

Alot of dental schools cover biochem, and quick, so it is good to have already seen it.

You are going to take it in dental school and if it is the first time you have ever laid eyes on it, it will kick your ***...not because it is altogether that difficult, but because you will be taking 8+ other courses along with it. Can you get by without it? Sure, people do it all the time. Your grades will likely suffer and your stress levels will certainly go up. Pick and choose your battles though, only you can decide what is best for you...provided the schools you apply to don't actually require it.

Is taking biochem absolutely necessary? This is my question. I don't want to take biochem because it is an absolute pain to squeeze into my schedule next year, my senior year. It is partially overlapping with my graduation requirement, so I need to partially miss one of these classes. In my school, biochem is offered in fall semester so I only have next semester to take biochem.I know alot of dental school list biochem as "strongly recommended," but would my not taking biochem really hurt my chances of getting into dental schools? Please guide me on this.

I think its actually required at many schools. So, yes.

why did you just post this topic again?

take it after you have already submitted your application so that it will not affect your GPA......and even if its not required, its really important to take it for D1 year.

VCU requires it before matriculating because they took biochem out of the dental cirriculum all together. if you are afraid it will affect your GPA, try and take it after you have applied and dental schools won't see the grade until you have sent in your final transcripts. by then hopefully you will have been accepted.

Required or not. I will recommend that people take it.

of course you have to take it...is this thread a joke? if your scared of biochem, neuro, pharm and histo will rape you...hah

I took cell bio
and I am not "afraid" of biochem
I just "don't want"to pay the additional tuition just because of biochem

Thank you everyone for your posts...
