I really want to take biochemistry because I know that it is what medical schools like to see. However, I will be a senior this upcoming fall and the times offered for it conflicr with my schedule. My only option in taking it would be during the summer at a community college. Would you recommend I take it at a CC or just not take it at all?

Thanks!

many people take classes at CC for the first two years, and then do the final two years at a university, which is fine.

I don't think it looks good to take classes at university, and then regress back to CC classes during summers, though. I doubt one class will be a big deal either way, so do it if you want. Another option is to just wait until you decide on which med school to go to, and take it if that school requires it (many don't) before matriculation.

Do they even teach biochem at CC's? I am only familiar with two CC's and neither one of them offer upper level 300-400 level courses, of which biochem is usually a 400 level or equivalent course. Just make sure they offer it.

Other than that is there any four year schools in your area that offer it in the summer, you could always take it as a visiting student there. If not, I wouldn't sweat it, go ahead and take it at the CC as long as your GPA in the sciences at your 4 year is decent than it won't look as if your trying to up your GPA via CC courses and you should be fine.

I took most of my pre-reqs at a CC. The CC I went to only offered a class called "Bio-Organic Chemistry." My understanding is that this is a very watered down course for people getting health related certificates or associates degrees and wouldn't be useful for premed.

biochem is required for some schools now, so see if it'll be necessary for you. if it is, +1 on the CCs in my area also not offering biochem. i am having to take it at a local 4year.
