I just wanted a more recent opinion on this? Whether it be in Secondaries or interviews should I mention the school is my number 1 choice?

Also would it be bad to tell multiple schools that?

It will have little impact at this stage. You're basically saying something that is completely non-committal and people know that you could be saying that to literally every school you apply to (I know, I know, some people actually mean it and would only ever say that to their top pick but it's the freeloaders that take advantage of that system that ruin it for everyone). I can't see it hurting if you have room left on a secondary or something but don't expect it to help much. After you've gone on your interviews, you can always send a letter of interest to your schools, perhaps rolled into an update letter as well, that carries a bit more weight since now you can speak about what exactly you like about that school versus others you've been to. It still has little impact though. Finally, if you're waitlisted, then you can send a letter of intent if you would absolutely, 100% attend that school if admitted off the waitlist. Such a statement has the biggest impact at that stage in your cycle.

This is your classic show versus tell. The whole point of the "why our school?" essays are to see if your experiences, background and academic interests are a great fit for the school. The better the essay is written or the bigger the connection you make, the more likely they'll believe that they are a top priority for you. For example, I'm a spine researcher...is there a school that has a department that does research very very similar to mine in which I may be able to flourish? That kind of thing.
Another way to show a school that they are your number 1 is to respond to their secondary as fast as possible.

Don't bother; they know you're lying.

Out of curiosity, if you have a relationship with this school and they're considered one of the "needy" schools, would this be a good idea?
